I literally thought I was going to lose my mind when my dog kept on climbing over our backyard fence! It was an every other day occurrence. I would leave him in the back yard when I would leave for work in the morning because leaving him alone inside the house was impossible. He was a chewer and doing his business in the house was a nightmare! I would come home to who knew what in the evening. I put him a dog house in the yard in case it rained while I was gone. He had his toys to play with and plenty of food and water everyday. Apparently this was not enough to make him stay in the yard.
Coming home to your large dog roaming the neighborhood and then having your neighbor complain because he was dragging things out of their yard, digging holes and doing his business on their lawn was completely frustrating. I knew I had to find a solution. I loved my dog and had no desire to give him away, yet I could not continue on the way it was going.
I began to research ways to make our chain link fence less easy for him to climb over. I found this website, www.doggybakery.org, and I was quite happy to see that there were actually several different options that could solve the climbing over the fence issue. In the end, I went with an electric wire along the top of my existing fence because it was the most cost effective for me. If you want to replace your old fence anyway, there are invisible fences that might be a better solution than installing a regular fence like chain link or wooden fencing. The prices vary depending on how large the area is that you want to enclose. Now everyone is happy! Well I and my neighbors are anyway. As for my dog, he has finally resigned himself to the fact that he must stay in his own yard!
